Update on Port Congestion in Chittagong, Bangladesh

11 August, 2025

We would like to inform you that Chittagong (Chattogram), Bangladesh port is is still experiencing significant berth congestion and high container yard (CY) density - almost 83% is occupied. The ongoing operational constraints are impacting vessel berthing schedules and cargo handling timelines. Effective 27th July, Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) will allocate berth CCT/1 and CCT/3 exclusively for Geared vessels for a period of 21 days.

During this time, the CPA Mechanical Department will refurbish 4 QGCs. Once refurbishment is complete, Gearless vessels will resume operations at these terminals. During this period, gearless vessels will continue to take berth at NCT as usual were there are 5 berths and 4 of them are dedicated for gearless feeder vessels.

Due to very high tide and elevated river water levels, water has overflowed into the CY, particularly affecting low-lying areas of GCB Yards. This has resulted in waterlogging, and Tier-1 container cargo may be at risk of water ingress. Our teams are actively coordinating with Port Authorities and CFS Operators to monitor and mitigate the situation.

To avoid disruptions, we need your cooperation in maintaining flexibility around cargo handover timing, even if it requires deviation from current cut-off timelines.

Since feeder vessel berthing is subject to delays, please plan cargo handovers based on actual vessel confirmation and availability.

Congestion at Chittagong Port is due to several factors, including extended Eid-ul-Adha holidays (June 5 - 14), a customs strike (June 28 - 29), berthing delays and Inter Terminal Trucking (ITT) issues at Colombo Port, and longer feeder vessel turnaround times.

Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to keep you informed of any developments. Should you have questions or require support, please contact RANDY LOGISTICS. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated
